OPURIUM

The Problem

Existing air purification devices are visually distasteful and environmentally wasteful. As we move towards more airtight energy efficient living, the build up of co2 indoors is also a growing issue, causing  drowsiness and poor mental performance.

Our Mission

Our goal is to design an air purifier that effectively removes both carbon dioxide and airborne pollutants while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Our Vision

We want to improve the
livelihood and health of millions by
enhancing indoor air quality. However,
originally this company was founded
to make an impactful difference
towards climate control. Our domestic
air purifier is the first step in that
vision.

Algae

Algae are ancient aquatic organisms that use sunlight and carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Micro-algae can absorb CO2 400 times more efficiently than trees. They also work as natural air purifiers, removing harmful pollutants like VOCs from the air.

Environment

Bad air quality drastically
effects the short and long term
health of the spaces you spend
the most time. Current air
purifiers lack any aesthetic
incentive to resolve this issue.

Opurium

Opurium aims to enhance air quality by marrying the capabilities of algae and using traditional filtration methods. Showcasing the algae visibly, our design naturally draws you towards a greener, aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional, industrial-looking purifiers.

The Stuff That's In Your Environment

Indoor air is often filled with Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from everyday items like paints, cleaners, furniture, and office equipment. These pollutants can reach levels up to ten times higher indoors than outdoors.

Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) is the gas we exhale during respiration. The environments in which we live and work often suffer from inadequate ventilation, leading to elevated CO₂ levels. This can result in increased sleepiness, heightened anxiety, and impaired cognitive function.

Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) refers to small particles with a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or less. Among these inhalable particles, biological examples include Mold, bacteria, and pollen, while non-biological examples encompass soot, dust, and smoke.

How It Works

The air surrounding the unit is drawn in through its base and passes through a compact HEPA filter.

This stage captures VOCs and PM2.5 particles such as dust, pet hair, lint, and some pollen. Essentially, it acts like a sieve, preventing these larger contaminants from progressing further into the purification process.

After removing airborne particles, the air is directed through the algae solution, ascending to the top of the tank. The algae then actively processes the air, extracting carbon dioxide and VOCs - generating oxygen

At the top of the unit, oxygen is released after removing carbon dioxide, VOCs, and PM2.5 particles. The process promotes improved cognitive function, overall wellness, and better health.

No other product on the market has the ability to remove all of these pollutants.
